Distracted? Survey finds 15% of motorists admit to sex acts while driving

Now for the ultimate in distracted driving: Sex behind the wheel.

It happens more often than you may think, a new international survey finds. Some 15% of the more than 1,800 motorists surveyed in the U.S.and five other countries admit to having to have "performed sex or sexual acts while driving." We always love that word "performed," implying it was a high-wire act or something.

But it in this case, it kind of is. Distracted driving is a major cause of accidents. But when it comes to distractions, most people think of cell phones, not nooky. Of course, some of the prerequisites required to have sex while driving can be just as dangerous: The survey by the Danish headset maker Jabra found that 35% of drivers say they have taken clothes off, or put them on, while their car was moving.

"We were quite shocked while examining the results of this survey to see what people were doing when they should be concentrating on driving," says Jonas Forsberg, general manager of Jabra's North American unit. "We want to encourage people to focus on the road and to use a hands-free headset or speakerphone."

Jabra says the survey results are based on responses from 1,800 consumers between the ages of 18 and 65 :

They came in equal number from the U.S., United Kingdom, France, Germany, Russia, and Japan. Respondents were asked how often they performed specific activities while driving and how dangerous they consider the activities – the majority (75%) drives an average of 10 hours or less per week. The margin of error is plus or minus 2.1%.

In the slightly less, though still hazardous category, the survey found 29% say they had kissed while driving. Think of it as foreplay.

As for other potentially dangerous, but hardly as risque, behaviors while driving:

72% admitted to eating food while driving.

32% of the survey respondents reported they're using a hands-free device
28% confirmed they have sent text messages while driving
23% admitted to often styling their hair
13% reported they have applied makeup while driving
12% admitted to having written or read emails while driving
10% reported reading newspapers or magazines while driving
5% confessed to having played video games
5% say that they have shaved while behind the wheel
