Kiwis prefer sex to sandwiches

A survey looking into lunchtime habits has found New Zealanders seem to prefer sex to sandwiches.

The online survey commissioned by Domino's Pizza has found one third of respondents have had sex while on their lunch break.

Nearly 9,000 people took part in the survey.

About 70% say their most memorable lunch break involves a sexual experience.

Others have got engaged, discovered they were pregnant, witnessed a car accident, been tattooed and played practical jokes on colleagues on their lunch break.

The survey found three quarters of those surveyed took lunch breaks of just 30 minutes or less and the survey found 66% of us experience 'food envy'.

The survey also found that more than half of workers enjoy their lunch in their company's lunch room and that a large number often eat at their desks, in the car or on the run.

When it comes to what Kiwis are eating for lunch, 58% predominantly make their lunch at home. The most popular home-made meals appear to be last night's leftovers and sandwiches with a diverse range of fillings.

Of those that purchase their lunch, the majority spend $10-20 each week on everything from gourmet sandwiches and pies to sushi, salads and fast food.

Many respondents described their favourite lunch as one they haven't had to prepare themselves.

As for what else Kiwis do on their lunch break the most common responses were reading, doing a crossword, going to the gym, surfing the internet, visiting social networking sites, running personal errands and going shopping.

International Sex Survey: Britons Among The Most Promiscuous In The World

It is far from an achievement to be proud of - research suggests that British men and women are the most promiscuous in the Western world.

It appears the days when we took a strict moralistic approach towards sex are long gone.

Researchers blamed the situation on a decline of religious scruples, the growth of equal rights for women and a highly sexualised popular culture.

They found that when it comes to one-night stands, numbers of partners and attitudes to casual sex, Britain leads the field, ahead of even liberal nations such as the Netherlands and the passionate Italians.

The researchers believe that our place at the top of the table could be linked to the way society has become more tolerant of sexual promiscuity among women as well as men. Women are now as accepting of one-night stands as men, they claimed. The research was led by David Schmitt, a professor of psychology at Bradley University, Illinois.
He said: 'Historically we have repressed women's short-term mating and there are all sorts of double standards out there where men's short-term mating was sort of acceptable but women's wasn't.'

More than 14,000 people in 48 countries were asked to fill in questionnaires where they were quizzed about numbers of partners and one-night stands. Their attitudes were assessed by asking them how many people they expected to sleep with over the next five years and how comfortable they were with the idea of casual sex.
The results of the study were combined with an index of 'sociosexuality' - a measure of how liberal people are when it comes to sex. Most people scored between four and 65, with higher scores showing more liberal approaches. In terms of countries, Finland had the highest rating with an average score of 52 and Taiwan the lowest with just 19.
Britain scored 40, placing it 11th overall, behind countries such as Latvia, Croatia and Slovenia - but it was highest among major Western industrial nations with a population of 10million or more.
The results are part of wider research carried out by Professor Schmitt, who releases this part of his study in this week's edition of New Scientist magazine.
The findings also confirm earlier research showing that the British are more likely than other nationalities to have 'stolen' other people's lovers.
A third of British men are in relationships with women they have taken from other long-term relationships, he found.
Among British women, 28 per cent have apparently poached their other halves rather than formed relationships with single men.

Survey: British girls have sex earlier

A survey of British young people finds that girls are twice as likely as boys to have sexual intercourse before the age of 16.
One in three girls and one in six boys lose their virginity before the legal age of consent, The Daily Mail reported. The poll was done for ITV by YouGov, which polled 1,700 people between the ages of 17 and 34.

Drinking and peer pressure appear to be major forces behind teenage girls turning to sex. Ten percent said they were drunk during their first sexual experience, and the same percentage said they felt pressured to have sex.

Fewer than half said they were in love.

An earlier survey found that while boys tend to start drinking earlier than girls, girls become more regular drinkers.

Britain has the highest rate of teenage pregnancy in Europe and an increasing rate of sexually transmitted diseases.

Where Would Most Brits Like To Have Sex? Inside Wembley Stadium, Of Course

It looks like the members of the English soccer team aren't the only ones who want to score from the penalty spot.

An undoubtedly thorough survey for Desire magazine has found that the top fantasy sex spot for the English public is none other than the famed Wembley Stadium in London. You may remember it from such films as: streaker interrupts halftime of the Giants/Dolphins game.

The national stadium, which has hosted everything from the Olympics to the World Cup to Evel Knievel jumping over a bunch of buses, edged out such romantic locations as Stonehenge, the London Eye ferris wheel, and a roller coaster at Alton Towers (Britain's answer to Six Flags).

At least the British are fans of a sport where it would at least be comfortable to partake in such activities on that sport's playing surface. I can't imagine that turn 2 at Daytona would be a turn-on for NASCAR fans, and even the most hockey-mad Canadian would have difficulties at center ice at any rink. Well done, Britain, once again. Nine in 10 Scouts favour sex before marriage

Scouts and Girl Guides are open to pre-marital sex, drugs and gay experiences, according to a new survey.

More than 2,500 Scouts from across Europe, aged between 16 and 22, were questioned by researchers as they attended a convention in Italy.

The results might have surprised Lord Baden-Powell, who founded the Scouting and Guiding movement more than a century ago.

One quarter of the girls and 12 per cent of the boys said they would consider a same-sex experience. Some Scout associations around the world bar homosexuals from their ranks although this is not the case in Britain.

More than 80 per cent of those questioned said they were happy to get drunk and almost half said they would smoke marijuana if offered.

Nine out of 10 Scouts and Guides said they expected to have sex before they got married, and almost half said they would be happy to commit adultery.

"There was an open-mindedness about breaking the rules that is common among young people," said a spokesman for the Institute of the Innocents, a government-backed body which conducts research into children and families, and which compiled the results.

Around half the Scouts and Guides who took part were Italian, but British Scouts also responded.

The questionnaires were distributed in five languages at Roverway 2006, a jamboree in Tuscany.

Smart Girls Survey

A survey conducted by a German lifestyle website reported that "women who had completed their education" reported more difficulty in reaching orgasm than women who had not.

They surveyed 2,000 women between the ages of 18 and 49 and found that 62% of educated women had problems and 38% of less educated women did not. That survey and its results were picked up by a London tabloid The Sun in a brief article quickly circulated on websites around the world. Last night it was late night monologue fodder with Jay Leno reporting "a London sex survey" as more bad news for Hillary Clinton.

A word about surveys and studies: They are snapshots of a particular group of respondents at one moment in their lives. No one since Alfred Kinsey (Kinsey Institute) has conducted a large-scale truly scientific survey of sexual behavior. Snapshots are sometimes interesting, sometimes irrelevant, sometimes misleading.

This one is misleading. Many other studies have concluded that women with higher IQs or more education are more--not less--likely to reach orgasm.

My opinion? Sex (or orgasm) isn't brain surgery. To enjoy sex and reach orgasm, a woman needs to understand her own body, overcome her inhibitions about seeking pleasure and be playful, creative and inventive in her erotic play. Whether she has a Ph.D. or a high school diploma--she can get there.

Greek teenagers are risking their sex lives

Greek teenagers are having sex at as young as 12 years old but more than half are not using proper methods of contraception, according to figures made public yesterday.

A survey presented at the Family Planning Conference being held in Thessaloniki indicated that the percentage of teenagers who are sexually active had increased from 30 percent in 2003 to 40 percent in 2007.

Almost seven in 10 teenagers have sex for the first time when they are aged between 16 and 18, but roughly one in 10 lose their virginity between the ages of 12 and 14.

A quarter of teenagers use inadequate contraception methods, while another 27 percent use no type of protection at all when having sex, according to the survey.

Londoners least likely to have sex in car

More than two out of five motorists have made love in a car, but Londoners are the least likely to indulge, a survey said today.

The Welsh are the keenest in-car lovers, with Londoners least likely to indulge, the survey from car insurance company Diamond found.

Those aged 22-29 are most likely to engage in motoring sex, although as many as 39% of those aged 60 or more admitted amorous in-car activity.

Based on responses from 1,000 motorists, the survey showed:

:: 41% have had sex in a car;
:: 52% of men, but only 34% of women, have made love in a motor;
:: 46% of Welsh motorists, but only 35% of London ones, admitted in-car sex;
:: Of those owning up, 53% did it in the front seat, 39% in the back seat and 9% on the bonnet.

Diamond managing director Sian Lewis said: "It's surprising to see that so many people have used their cars in this way. Who knows, it could be that the bedroom just isn't as much fun or people simply can't wait to get home.

"With considerably more men than women admitting to making love in their car, you have to question if this is a case of men exaggerating their in-car prowess or women not wanting to admit to it."

Sexual Experience Reported by 14% to 38% of 15-Year-Olds in Europe/Canada

Jan 11, 2008 -- England has the highest percentage of sexually experienced 15-year-olds in Europe and Canada, a 24-nation survey shows.

Emmanuelle Godeau, MD, PhD, of the University of Toulouse, France, and colleagues asked some 34,000 15-year-olds about their sexual activities as part of a youth health survey. They collected the data in 2002 from students in 23 European countries and Canada.

Generally speaking, 15-year-olds from Western Europe were more likely to report sexual intercourse than those in Eastern Europe. When they did, they also were more likely to report use of effective birth control -- either oral contraceptives or condoms.

Other findings:

* Rates of sexual experience ranged from 38% in England to 14% in Croatia.
* Overall, 82% of sexually experienced teens used condoms and/or birth control pills.
* Condom use ranged from 53% of sexually active teens in Sweden to 89% in Greece.
* Birth control pill use ranged from 3% in Croatia to 48% in the Netherlands and in Flemish-speaking Belgium.
* Surprisingly, a large proportion of girls and boys -- 16% overall -- used both condoms and birth control pills when they last had sexual intercourse.
* In the seven nations that asked about emergency contraception, 10% of teens who did not use condoms or birth control pills used the morning-after pill after their most recent sexual episode.
* Withdrawal -- a difficult method of birth control pill with a 25% failure rate among teens -- was the birth control method used by a fifth of students not using other forms of birth control.

In an editorial accompanying the study, John Santelli, MD, MPH, of New York's Columbia University notes that surveys of U.S. teens show they are less likely than Western European teens to use effective methods of birth control.

Santelli and colleagues suggest that normalization of teen sexual behavior -- coupled with an emphasis on personal responsibility -- is linked to more use of birth control and lower pregnancy rates in teens.

The Godeau study and the Santelli editorial appear in the January issue of Archives of Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine.
