SRE Review: Young People's Survey

I’m pleased to tell you that the Sex Education Forum has today launched an online survey to find out what young people think should be included in sex and relationships (SRE) education. The survey asks young people which topics were covered in their school SRE - and if they learnt as much as they needed to. The Sex Education Forum, in conjunction with the UK Youth Parliament, is calling on young people aged sixteen to nineteen to give their views. The results will be included in the government’s review of SRE - as per its commitment in the Children’s Plan, so this is a fantastic opportunity for young people’s voices to be heard.

The survey will be online until 10 June 2008. Young people over sixteen interested in completing the survey should visit: www.ncb.org.uk/sresurvey and can also access the survey from the Sex Education Forum home page: www.ncb.org.uk/sef

You might like to encourage colleagues who work directly with young people aged 16-19 in further education and other youth settings to promote the survey over the next 4 weeks by:

- e-mailing young people encouraging them to take part
- asking tutors, youth workers, student union officers and learning mentors to tell students about the survey
- completing the survey as a group activity with a particular group of young people
- finding opportunities for peer-led promotion of the survey
- flagging up the survey in local media activity about SRE and sexual health services
- putting the link on local web-sites relevant to young people (e.g. colleges and sexual health services)

Your support in promoting this survey will be invaluable in ensuring that a wide range of young people get heard on this important issue.
